Desert Bouquet... Summer's End

Desert Bouquet... Summer's End

Demon-like thistle... the screams
of burnt-red sunset clouds... truckloads
of basalt pillars for town square decoration.
In dirty likeness with error-prone dead:
ice the beer, kiss the brow of a coyote skull.

September Gnarled Sagebrush

September Gnarled Sagebrush

At start-out, morning-luminous birth,
we reference canned-laughter TV shows.
Any death of nature works best
in walnut-paneled rooms, richly softened...
burgundy-velvet curtains, lead-blue windows.

The deadlines of talking heads
have chalkboard-black wings.
Second-floor suicides know this.
This is how Elsewhere becomes.
